There's a feeling of a small town community right in the
middle of downtown Raleigh. Historic Oakwood is a community
of homes most of which are dated from the mid 1800's to the
early 1900's. There's a continuing effort to preserve the Victorian
architectural style from a century ago. The immaculate care
of the exterior of a home is only a prelude to the beauty and
attention to detail given to the interior.
Your annual opportunity to admire the interior of 12 of these
homes will be during this year's Candlelight Tour of homes held
December 9th and 10th from 1-7pm both days.

Burning Coal Theatre Company is currently renovating the historic Murphey School Auditorium at the corner of Person and Polk Streets. The Murphey School, one of the oldest schools still in existence in Raleigh, was the first integrated school in our state's capital. Come by for coffee and cookies druing the Tour.
Historic Oakwood Cemetery was founded in 1869 upon property that was part of the original Mordecai Plantation. This cemetery, rich in history, boasts a renovated office with a "barrel" ceiling featuring the original 1910 heart pine beams, a 1912 map recovered and restored only a few years ago, many of the original record books recording some of the earliest burials, and a beautiful evening luminary display. It is decorated for the holidays and welcomes visitors during the Tour.
