Oakwood Garden ClubTheOakwood Garden Club will continue a historic, spring tradition with the 23rd Annual Oakwood Garden Tour and Tea Saturday, May 5 and Sunday, May 6, 2012. Attendees will enjoy a complimentary Victorian Tea followed by walking tours of some of the best gardens of Historic Oakwood homes. Tea will be served at 10 am, Noon and 2 pm both days, and seating options are selected at time of ticket purchase.

Novice and expert gardeners, outdoor enthusiasts, history buffs and families will enjoy the neighborhood stroll while gathering endless ideas for annual and perennial gardens. Tours will include contrasting styles of nearby home gardens with short and long options for touring some of the neighborhood’s most beautiful sites. Attendees are encouraged to wear comfortable walking shoes.

garden tea and tourOakwood Historians will provide insight on the neighborhood’s history and highlight features of the varying home architectural styles, including Victorian, Queen Anne, Second Empire and Greek Revival.

The Victorian Tea will feature vintage china and hand-selected teas provided by Tin Roof Teas to compliment the sweet and savory edibles provided by local and neighborhood businesses. The Tea will last approximately one hour, and guests are invited to wear their best hat.

“We look forward to sharing the natural beauty of our neighborhood’s gardens and historic charm through this annual event which supports our beautification and preservation projects.” said Ellen Nightingale, president of the Historic Oakwood Garden Club. “The Oakwood Garden Club has historically rallied to preserve the beauty of our neighborhood and even stopped a highway from destroying Oakwood in the 1970s while successfully forming the Society for the Preservation of Historic Oakwood.”
