47th Historic Oakwood Candlelight Tour®

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Few things beat the Beauty of Historic Oakwood Homes at Christmas

47th Historic Oakwood Candlelight Tour®
Lets You Step into Centuries Old Homes Dec. 8 & 9.

RALEIGH, N.C. — One of Raleigh's longest-held holiday traditions invites visitors on an intimate tour of Historic Oakwood residences during the 47th annual Historic Oakwood Candlelight Tour® on Saturday and Sunday, December 8 & 9 from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Homes featured in the tour date from late-1800’s to mid-1900’s, and range in style from Queen Anne cottages to Neoclassical Revival and Italianate residences. Attendees will witness a mix of holiday décor, either mirroring the home's yesteryears or matching today’s modern lifestyle of the homeowners. Docents at each stop offer insider information such as the home’s unique features, the family lineage and surrounding community.

“It is an honor and a pleasure to open up the doors to these beautiful Historic Oakwood homes during the season,” said Kate Bronstein, Oakwood resident and tour chairperson. “The entire neighborhood buzzes with holiday cheer this time of year – truly a magical season. As always, we are grateful to both the homeowners who open their homes for this event, but also to the public, which makes this event one of Raleigh’s long-standing traditions.”

Ticket holders are welcome to tour the properties at their own pace, typically allowing three to four hours to view all the featured homes and the neighborhood. The annual Historic Oakwood Candlelight Tour benefits the non-profit organization The Society for the Preservation of Historic Oakwood. Advance tickets are available now for purchase for $25 online at www.historicoakwood.org, or beginning November 10th at Logan’s Trading Company, 707 Semart Drive, Seaboard Station, Raleigh. Group rates are also available through December 1. Day-of tickets will be available at The Tucker House, 418 N. Person St. Advance purchases are highly encouraged as 2017 sold out.

About the Historic Oakwood Candlelight Tour®

The 47th annual Historic Oakwood Candlelight Tour offers a chance to walk back in time through some of Raleigh’s oldest and grandest homes. The self-guided tour features different homes each year, and visitors can tour them at their own pace. About the Society for the Preservation of Historic Oakwood

Historic Oakwood is now one of Raleigh's tourist attractions – but it wasn’t always the case. A 1972 announcement of a major thoroughfare planned through the heart of the neighborhood united residents, and the Society for the Preservation of Historic Oakwood, a non-profit corporation, was formed. The thoroughfare plan was thwarted, and the neighborhood revitalization continues to this day through projects such as supporting the construction of a Habitat for Humanity house and facilitating the major restoration of a endangered home on Person Street.
